Physical Therapy Meets Yoga
Physical therapist and Whole Yoga owner Mike "Vajra" Kohm now offers physical therapy sessions through Whole Yoga. Sessions are 45 minutes and new evaluations are one hour.
Mike's specialties are Trigger Point Dry Needling, Bike Fits and Traditional Manual Therapy. Learn more about each below.
Trigger Point Dry Needling (TDN)
Trigger point dry needling is a treatment technique, which uses small filament type needles to release tight muscles with the goal of permanently reducing muscle pain and dysfunction. Small, thin needles are inserted in the muscles at the trigger points causing the pain referral.
Physical therapists/physiotherapists are now using this technique around the world to effectively treat acute and chronic orthopedic and musculoskeletal conditions.
Bike fits are based on the idea that bikes can be adjusted to "fit" the rider and with that comes considerably increased comfort and efficiency.
Approached from the physical therapist viewpoint, bike fits done by Mike are "medical bike fits" designed to reduce pain when riding. On a bike pain is quite often the manifestation of poor biomechanics above or below the involved painful area. Part of the equation is the rider's flexibility, not only in their musculoskeletal system, but in their "neural dynamics" as well.
Most fits done by Mike start with a selective functional movement assessment, address the neural dynamics, and then a review of the rider's medical background. Of course Mike can also optimize bike fits for professional racers, teenagers, and weekend warriors.
