Yoga Immersion Program

Join us for a life-changing journey into the heart of yoga.

Deeply experience over 40 poses from the inside-out. Practice breathing techniques that will give you the foundation to meditation and self-inquiry. Learn how the ancient wisdom of the Yamas and Niyamas applies to your life today. Explore your relationship with yourself and your surroundings in a safe, supportive space

The Yoga Immersion Program (YIP) at Whole Yoga is for:

• Yoga students looking to deepen their practice and understanding of themselves through yoga
• Yoga students interested in becoming yoga instructors (Students who take YIP have an excellent base to start Teacher Training with, and we recommend that aspiring teachers take YIP)
• Students at any level, including beginners, who would like a strong foundation for attending drop in classes
• Yoga instructors who wish to focus on their personal practice

The Yoga Immersion Program is comprised of practice and study of the first four limbs of Patanjali's "8 limbs of Yoga", Yama, Niyama, Asana, and Pranayama. This class is a prerequisite to our Hatha Yoga Teacher Training program.

Asana

Picture
The Asana portion of the program will teach you the foundation of 40+ poses. Included are: Standing Poses, Forward Bends, Back Bends, Twists, Inversions, Balance Poses and Sun Salutations. You will learn how to practice all the postures with proper alignment and safe body mechanics. You will receive personal instruction and feedback. We encourage you to take notes and ask questions throughout class.

Pranayama & Philosophy

Picture
The Pranayama segment will introduce you to new breathing techniques that intertwine with practicing Asana and Meditation. Pranayama will become a tool that you use to manage stress, release tension, increase your ability to focus and also strengthen your asana practice.

The Philosophy segment will introduce you to the “8 limbs of Yoga” taken from the classical system of yoga known as Patanjali’s Yoga Sutras. We focus on the Yamas and Niyamas, which provide guidance for relating to others, the world and to yourself. We practice and learn experientially, with activities to keep the learning in our bodies and hearts rather than only our heads.

Here what others are saying about YIP:

"This program was so much more than I expected. Susan and the guest instructors are very knowledgeable and provided an amazing amount of information. I have such an appreciation for all that's necessary and useful for a practice. How to be safe, aligned and present. As someone who has dabbled with yoga over the years, I would recommend this program to anyone, especially a beginner like myself. Great people, great studio. Shanti." - Liz

"YIP was a complete eye-opener--finding out that I can improve my practice a lot by doing less, exploring the "truth" of my body and a pose rather than pushing for extreme achievement. YIP has given me great tools to get much more out of yoga classes and to establish a safe home practice that works for my body type. Learning about Vedic philosophy along the poses created an empowering context, inspiring a balanced approach to exercise and to the daily challenge of life. I would recommend YIP to every yoga practitioner, even if you just attend classes casually" - Marion

"YIP should be a prerequisite for life! It has really given me a better understanding of how I want to interact with my body mindfully and physically as well as how I interact with the world. It has also given me a great foundation for my yoga practice so I can practice in a safe and peaceful manner. I am so thankful for this incredible experience" - Angela

"The Yoga Immersion Program was transformational! If you're interested in deepening your yoga practice in mind, body, and spirit, this program is a must. I love that it's designed to be a stand-alone course, whether you're going on to teacher training or not. Thank you, Whole Yoga,  for creating space where the students can really explore what yoga means to them personally." - Valerie

"YIP moved my understanding of yoga from a random collection of experiences to a basic overall sense of the fundamentals. Thanks! "
~ Dan

"The YIP program has changed my idea of yoga and my body. I did not have many expectations at the start but by the end I realized the best thing I can do for myself is to further explore yoga."
~ YIP Participant Fall 2015

"Yoga Immersion was so much more than poses. It was about the community that formed what we learned from each other and the common threads that connect all of us in life as humans." ~ YIP Participant Fall 2015

"I appreciated how the course integrated theory and practice as well as how it utilized lots of experiential activities that gave life to the concepts we were learning. Thank You! "~ YIP Participant Summer 2015

"YIP is a wonderful experience. It is a confidence booster and exercise in self awareness that can change your life. It was really enjoyable and so worth the time and money. I learned about myself, not just physically but lifestyle as well." ~YIP Participant Summer 2015

"Having practiced yoga for the past 5 years, I thought I had a solid understanding of the practice. After taking YIP at Whole Yoga, I learned that asana is only 1/8 of yoga and that I can apply yoga philosophy to my daily life." ~ YIP Participant Summer 2015
